People are getting creative with their money and how they are going to spend it in this up and coming holiday season. Black Friday is done and over with, something that I would never participate in - I can tell you that and the crunch is on in an effort to get everything done and over with in one month’s time.

As I have previously stated and written about, I’ve been tossing around the idea of purchasing a Direct TV subscription for my aunt and uncle as their Christmas gift, now I have definitely decided that it is the way to go for them. They are two of the best relatives that I still have left in this world and I would love to see them be able to enjoy their “golden years” a bit more while in the comfort of their own home watching good quality TV. With my uncle being a huge sports fan, he will really enjoy what Directv has to offer this time of year.

Direct Satellite TV is the best satellite provider that I have run across. I’ve had a subscription with them for almost 10 years, so I get a lot of complimentary things from them for be such a loyal customer for so long. Frequently they give me free movie channels, right now I’m receiving free Show Time movie channels for a one year period as a thank you from them, which is cool, I like free!

Before I relocated into this house I had Direct TV in California, so when I moved east, it was a simple process to have my Direct TV ready and waiting at the new house, all set to go, short and sweet like. It was actually probably the easiest thing to deal with during the whole moving episode, something that I never want to have to go through ever again thank you very much. Moving is one of the most stressful times in our lives, right up there with Christmas!

I’ve had a bottle of white wine left over from many months ago, I think it was from Labor Day actually and that has been many months ago. It has been in the bottom of the refrigerator just taking up precious space since. So tonight I decided to open the sucker back up after dinner and drink what was left of it, come hell or high water.

It really wasn’t all that bad but I must say that a fresh bottle tastes a whole heck of a lot better, which reminds me that I need to pick up a bottle for Thanksgiving dinner.

Who doesn’t know someone that has had to have one or more of the hip replacements that have worked wonders for so many people the past  several decades? There seems to be some health and legal issues with issues on zimmer durom cup products that are causing quite a stir and needs looking into if you have had this procedure done or know someone that has had it done in the past.

These durom cup hip replacement parts are loosening, which are producing a huge amount of court cases being filed against Zimmer Durom. I have several relatives and family friends that have had their hip’s done and I would and am going to urge them to read this interesting information that I found at the Maglio Christopher Toale & Pitts Law Firm  web site. It can be found and read at http://www.mctplaw.com/joint-replacement/zimmer-durom.php if you’d like to check it out. You can see which zimmer durom cup types are of issue and if these attorneys can do anything for you if needed.

There is information on knee replacement issues there as well.

CRABBY OLD MAN

When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in North Platte, Nebraska , it was believed that he had nothing left of any value

Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions, They found this poem . Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital .

One nurse took her copy to Missouri . The old man’s sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas edition of the News Magazine of the St. Louis Association for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem.

And this little old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this ‘anonymous’ poem winging across the Internet .

Crabby Old Man

What do you see nurses?……………… What do you see?

What are you thinking …………………… when you’re looking at me?

A crabby old man, ………………………… not very wise,

Uncertain of habit ………………………… with faraway eyes?

Who dribbles his food ………………….. and makes no reply .

When you say in a loud voice ……….. ‘I do wish you’d try!’

Who seems not to notice ……………… the things that you do …

And forever is losing …………………….. A sock or shoe?

Who, resisting or not …………………….. lets you do as you will,

With bathing and feeding ……………….The long day to fill?

Is that what you’re thinking? …………….Is that what you see?

Then open your eyes, nurse ……………you’re not looking at me .

I’ll tell you who I am …………………………As I sit here so still,

As I do at your bidding, ………………… as I eat at your will .

I’m a small child of Ten ………………… with a father and mother,

Brothers and sisters ……………………. who love one another

A young boy of Sixteen ……………….. with wings on his feet

Dreaming that soon now …………….. a lover he’ll meet …

A groom soon at Twenty ……………….my heart gives a leap .

Remembering, the vows ……………… that I promised to keep …

At Twenty-Five, now ……………………. I have young of my own …

Who need me to guide …………………And a secure happy home .

A man of Thirty …………………………… My young now grown fast,

Bound to each other …………………… With ties that should last ..

At Forty, my young sons ……………….have grown and are gone,

But my woman’s beside me ………… to see I don’t mourn .

At Fi fty, once more, …………………… Babies play ‘ round my knee,

Again, we know children …………….. My loved one and me …

Dark days are upon me . ……………. My wife is now dead …

I look at the future …………………………I shudder with dread .

For my young are all rearing …………young of their own …

And I think of the years ……………….. And the love that I’ve known

I’m now an old man …………………….. and nature is cruel .

Tis jest to make old age ………………look like a fool .

The body, it crumbles …………………..grace and vigor, depart …

There is now a stone ………………….. where I once had a heart .

But inside this old carcass …………..A young guy still dwells,

And now and again ……………………..my battered heart swells

I remember the joys ……………………. I remember the pain …

And I’m loving and living …………….. life over again ….

I think of the years…all too few ……..gone too fast …

And accept the stark fact ……………..that nothing can last .

So open your eyes, people ………….open and see..

Not a crabby old man…Look closer…see …….ME!!

Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might brush aside without looking at the young soul within . . . . . we will all, one day, be there, too!

PLEASE SHARE THIS POEM

The best and most beautiful things of this world can’t be seen or touched … They must be felt by the heart .

It never dawned on me that a nice Christmas present for my aunt and uncle could (and possibly will be) is to sign them up for one of Direct TV Packages that they have been looking into these past months. My mother tells me that they currently have cable and are not happy with what their provider is providing them with these days. Besides times are still terribly hard, the economy has a way long way too go until we see any improvements that affect us common folks, so most of us are looking for ways to reduce their monthly bills. Looking at the way we receive our Internet, Phones and Television services, and comparing what promotions are out there that you can snag onto is a smart way to save some money, and maybe even upgrade in the process! And believe me there are great deals to be found.

I have directv satellite and couldn’t be happier with it and all the different packages that they offer, from $29.95 a month. I went online and read up on the current Direct TV Deals.  Of course you get the free installation and no start up fees, but you also get a couple of movie channels for free for the first 3 months. My Uncle is a big sports fan, so their NFL Sunday Ticket, which is one of the DIRECTV Specials that they are so well known for, would be a great feature of the gift as well.

So once again one of my mother’s many suggestions and leads has worked out nicely. Thanks Mom!
